This course is intended to give the student a forum to develop use-competency with four or five enabling computer tools. Graduates with training in the use of these tools are currently sought after by employees. These tools are PC based structural design (Pro/Engineer, Mechanica), virtual instrumentation (Labview), Prototyping (MasterCAM, Maestro), Automation (Fanuc G-code, Ladder Logic) and others. The course will consist primarily of miniprojects using the list of tools and focused on a manufacturing topic. Lecture will be used to introduce these tools, to give tutorials, and to address problems. Students will work in rotating teams and grades will be assigned based on competency with each of the tools demonstrated from reports, presentations and exams.
