What were the ranchos of San Diego?

There were twenty-nine rancho grants given by the Mexican government to persons living in San Diego between 1823 and 1846. These grants comprised more than a half a million acres. The map here shows the location of the grants. Click on the grant to obtain more information, the names of the first grantees, the size of rancho, and other identifying characteristics.
