Computational Linguistics MA Program | Faculty & Research

Jean Mark Gawron (PhD in Linguistics, University of California at Berkeley) specializes in computational syntax and semantics, the lexicon, and machine translation. He has extensive experience in building NLP systems, having played a key role in creating and developing systems at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, The University of Edinburgh, Stanford University, SRI International, and New York University's Courant Institute.

Robert Malouf (PhD in Linguistics, Stanford) came to SDSU from the University of Groningen, where his work was focused on the development of probabilistic disambiguation models for a large-scale unification-based grammars. Previously, he explored both the theoretical and the engineering aspects of precisely specified constraint-based grammar formalisms as a member of the LinGO project, based at Stanford University's Center for the Study of Language and Information. Malouf has taught computational linguistics at Stanford, UC Berkeley, U of Groningen, and at numerous European summer schools.
