Chinese Language Program | Study Abroad

Every year, a number of students were sent to Mainland China and Taiwan to study the Chinese language for the duration of one year. Candidates are selected on a competitive basis. They must have one year of Chinese at SDSU or equivalent to qualify. Exchange students pay tuition for SDSU and are waived tuition in the Chinese university. Those going to Mainland are expected to pay for their own living expenses, which are much lower than in California. Those going to Taiwan will be paid a monthly stipend. All exchange students will pay for their own transportation. For both locations, there are two to three universities to choose from. Students interested in the Mainland Chinese program should contact Professor Mei Zhong of Communication (mzhong@mail.sdsu.edu) or Professor Zheng-sheng Zhang in the Linguistics Department (594-1912 or zzhang@mail.sdsu.edu) for more information. The application time is in the Fall semester, please watch out for the announcement. There is also a new study abroad program for International Business students, who will be required to spend a year in China. International Business students should inquire from the office of International Business.
