Ghada Osman earned a Doctor of Philosophy Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University in June 2001. The focus of her doctoral dissertation was The Christians of Late Sixth and Early Seventh Century Mecca and Medina: An Investigation into the Arabic Sources. She has published a number of research articles including “Pre-Islamic Arab Converts to Christianity,” (The Muslim World; forthcoming, winter 2005), “Individualism and Movement in Mecca and Medina,” (Journal of Middle Eastern and North African Intellectual and Cultural Studies; forthcoming, winter 2004), “Representing the West in the Arabic Language: The Slave Narrative of Omar ibn Sa’id” (Journal of Islamic Studies; co-authored with Camille F. Forbes, forthcoming, 2004), “Ibn Khaldun: the Historian on Language” (Middle East Bulletin; 37:1 (2003)), “Back to Basics: The Discourse of Muslim Feminism in Contemporary Egypt” (Women and Language; 26:1 (2003)), and “Written vs. Oral Transmission: The Case of Tabari and Ibn Sa‘d” (Arabica; 48 (2001)).

At SDSU, Ghada Osman teaches all levels of Arabic (Elementary through Advanced), as well as non-language courses such as Arabic Culture (Arabic 330) and History of the Islamic World (History 596).
