Workstudy Jobs:
Restricted to students who receive work-study funds as a part of their financial aid package
School in the Park: ($10-12 per hour)
- Students work 10 to 13 hours per week helping
with theatre, arts, science, etc. with fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classes
that meet at the various museums in Balboa Park.
- Hiring through third week of class during fall or spring semester.
America Reads: ($10 - 12 per hour)
- Interested in helping children between 5 and 8 years old develop their literacy skills,
- Can commit between 10 - 20 hours per week to tutoring in local elementary schools, and
- Able to enroll in TE 362 (3 units) meeting Mondays 9:00-10:50 AM in fall semester.

Elderhostel (5/29/08)
San Diego State University Elderhostel is looking for five to six students to work with 10 to 15 children, ages 9 to 11, in a casual, relaxed atmosphere for specific days during the weeks of June 16-19 and July 28-31. Students would be responsible for overseeing these children for a 6 to 7 hour period on June 16 and July 28 during the day on a planned field trip to Cabrillo National Monument. These children would be visiting the Monument with their grandparents for this outing. The second specific period would be in the evening of June 19 and July 31 from 3 to 4 hours, as the children participate in organized games at the Mission Valley Resort on Hotel Circle. Creativity and enthusiasm would be required for this evening’s activity. Salary would be $12.00 per hour.

Oak Park Branch Library--Ask Dr. Roeder about credit for Experience D of LIB S 300 field experience (4/17/07 on going)
Rita Danskin, a Multiple Subject Credentialed Teacher, is now serving as Branch Manager for
the Oak Park Branch Library at 54th and College Grove (less than 15 minutes from campus). The library is open Monday
and Wednesday 12-8 and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9:30-5:30. The branch continues to seek volunteers to:
- Create a 4, 6, 8, or 16 week story time curriculum (Tuesdays 10:30 and Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30).
- Tutor or run homework lab after school.
- Run spelling bees.
- Teach technology to children or adults.

Study Abroad
Division of Undergraduate Studies Study Abroad Incentive Scholarship (2/21/08)
The scholarship is to support study, research, or internship in SDSU-approved programs abroad. Applications will be accepted from Liberal Studies majors and students in the Compact Scholars Program who are enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at San Diego State University. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
- Application Deadlines:
- April 11, 2008, for Summer 2008, Fall Semester 2008 and Academic Year 2008-09 programs.
- November 11, 2008, for Spring Semester 2009 and Winter/Spring break programs
- Scholarships are awarded annually, with average awards ranging from $1,000-$2,000.
- Applications will be rated on the following:
- The quality of the applicant's response to the essay questions.
- The applicant's financial need.
- The relevance of the chosen study abroad program to the applicant's academic program and career goals
- The length of the applicant's study abroad program.
- The applicant's cumulative grade point average.
- Students may apply for study abroad scholarships even if they have not yet applied or been accepted into their chosen study abroad program, but award money will not be released without proof of acceptance to an authorized study abroad program.

Fulbright Scholarships for Highly Talented Graduates (2/27/08)
Graduates of SDSU may apply for a Student Fulbright Teaching English grant in order to teach English
in another country. Fulbright grants are highly competitive. For more information see

Camp Adventure Youth Services (2/27/07)

- Not-for-profit, student-run organization and student staff. Approximately, 600 students are sent to 118 program sites in
16 countries serving more than 8,000 children daily.
- Founded by the University of Oregron; hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
- Programs oriented towards children in US military installations: day camps, aquatic programs, dance pursuits,
kinder camp, teen programs, Outdoor Rangers, and Panther Cub CampsTM.
- Programs in Korea, Japan, England, Belgium, Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands, Kuwait, People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Panama,
Spain, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Russia, and the United States.
- Accepted applicants attend the development program, Camp AdventureTM College. The program is a 60-hour development
program. Applicants will be certified in first aid, CPR, and participate in life guarding training.
- For the student staff program, most students will
- begin departing in early June,
- live in military housing on a military base, and
- have "base privileges" and are allowed to use the shopping area and other facilities of the base.
- Camp Adventure provides airfare, housing, all travel expenses to and from the site and a food stipend of $22 per day.
Camp Adventure participation includes 12 units of undegraduate credit in the summer at a reduced price of $285 total.
- Camp Adventure gives students a chance to explore and become familiar with various human services career opportunities with the
U.S. government. Students are often hired into positions through contacts made during their summer experiences.
- Camp Adventure provides a unique opportunity for students to discover new and different cultural experiences, share
in the joy of serving others, and
discover their inner talents and abilities.
