Journal for Learning Enhancement, Volume 2

Editorial Comments

Many faculty members at San Diego State University work actively and continuously to enhance their teaching and optimize student learning.

In order to give wider distribution to innovative ideas that really work on this campus, the Undergraduate Council put out a call for papers from SDSU faculty engaged in such endeavors. We asked that the submissions not only describe in detail the innovation or experiment undertaken in the classroom, but also give a clear assessment of the outcome of the venture: what succeeded and how did it improve student learning; what was less successful and how might this be improved in the future?

We begin the series with an article written by Professor Michael Belch of the Marketing department in the College of Business. This account gives interesting insight not only into the ways that new approaches help students learn, but also reveals the satisfaction involved for the professor and the sense of personal growth in his approach to teaching.

We have planned to make this series ongoing as long as we have valuable material, and will release a new account and analysis every few weeks. SDSU Faculty wishing to contribute to the series should contact Carole Scott, editor of the Journal (carole.scott@sdsu.edu) or simply email their submission to this address. This electronic publication is peer reviewed, and is being linked to search engines that will make it globally accessible with ease. An award is made for each article published which may be used for faculty travel, books or equipment, or as a cash prize.

Presentation of these articles by the Journal For Learning Enhancement was made possible by a limited license grant from the authors who have retained all copyrights.
