Accessing Your Blackboard Course

Current Semester

Blackboard is integrated with the university registration system. Each semester, courses are automatically created for every course offered at SDSU. Instructor assignments and student enrollments are also automated. All courses are created with the status of "unavailable" this means they are invisible to everyone except the instructor(s) of record. Instructors must make each course available before it can viewed by students.

As students register for the class, they are added to the Blackboard roster. As students drop the class, their access to that course site is disabled. One month after each semester ends, all the course sites from that semester will automatically be made "unavailable." If instructors would like students to have continued acccess to that site, they may manually make it available again.

Future Semesters

New semester courses are loaded into Blackboard after the official semester schedule has been completed. Instructors who wish to work on new sites before that time may call the Blackboard Help Desk, 594-3485, to request a development site. After the "official" courses are created, the content can be transferred easily to the new site using the Course Copy feature.

Past Semesters

Blackboard sites will remain on the server for one year after completion (4 semesters). At that time, Blackboard staff will contact instructors about deleting or archving these sites. Instructors must respond to Blackboard administration to request their site be archived.
