125 Pages

(June 1995)

This is a complete report from the Advisory Committee on the City of the Future and its individual task forces. Key findings include:

InfoSanDiego: San Diego should implement InfoSanDiego, an on-line information resource that promotes the San Diego region and provides a wide range of services to community members. Eleven key recommendations are made to provide a path for developing a successful InfoSanDiego.

Health Care: After several months of extensive health care research in the San Diego area, this task force recommends the development of San Diego Telehealth, Inc. which would oversee the implementation of a community health information network, the development of an electronic communication capacity for the region, and a utility to provide patient information which will assist individuals in their own health care decisions.

Privacy, Security and Intellectual Property: This task force highlights the Privacy Principles adopted by the San Diego City Council as part of its Telecommunications Policy enacted in October, 1994. Each principle is discussed as it relates to the City of the Future. It is recommended that the city update its policies regarding copyright and intellectual property as the technology changes. The task force recognizes that there is no "absolute security," but suggests some measures for establishing reasonably high expectations for the information system. Various other recommendations are also made.

Education: This task force recommends the continuing development of the Life Site School, targeting one school as a community center using the newest information technologies, and gradual diffusion of the program to include other schools.
