Frequently Asked Questions
The following information is provided as a service to prospective International Business majors. In no instance is it meant to supercede
official SDSU admissions policies or requirements. Contact Student Outreach Services or,
for foreign students, the International Student Center, for the policies which
apply to you as an individual.
- I know that International Business is an impacted program. What are your admissions criteria, and is everyone accepted
who meets the criteria?
- The goal of every student who wants to become an IB major at SDSU is first and foremost to be accepted by San Diego State University. If you are
accepted by SDSU and you have indicated that you wish to major in International Business, the computer will automatically list you as a "pre-International
Business" major.
After you have been accepted as a pre-IB major, you should attend a group advising meeting and consult with the program adviser
to determine whether you have met the criteria for declaring upper division in the major. These criteria include:
- Completion of the seven lower division business courses with a C or better in each class
- Completion (or testing out of)of the lower division language courses
- 56 units of college courses
- 2.80 GPA based on all college coursework taken
- Completion of the SDSU mathematics and writing competencies
We accept everyone who meets these criteria.
- Do you require Calculus?
- No, we do not. The only math class we require is statistics.
- I will be entering International Business as a freshman. What high school courses do you recommend I take?
- High school students are strongly encouraged to complete four years of one foreign language, four years of mathematics, and courses in accounting, computer programming, economics and world history.
- I've only taken two years of my language in high school. Can I finish at SDSU?
- Yes, you can. You can even begin a new language at SDSU if you wish.
- Statistics at my college is not articulated with SDSU. What should I do?
- You have a choice. You can either
- take statistics at SDSU after you arrive or
- contact the SDSU department which teaches
that class (in this case, the Mathematics department) with a course description from your college to see whether they will sign
a petition to accept your college's class for transfer credit.
