Social Science Program
Under the aegis of the History Department, the Social Science major offers two different tracks and serves the needs of over 280 majors and pre-majors.
The Social Science program is a flexible, multi-disciplinary program with the goal of promoting an appreciation for the interrelatedness of 12 departments by exposing students to their varied methodologies. This major is appropriate for students who are seeking a liberal education addressing a broad spectrum of understandings, insights, and appreciations. The Social Science Single Subject major prepares students for the State of California single subject teaching credential program through specific courses that are required by the state to satisfy competency requirements for future teachers in grades 7 through 12. Students who complete this program are prepared to teach world history, United States history, geography, government, and economics in junior high and high school.
