John Ysursa
Dr.
Ysursa's area of interest is Civil War era America, specifically
the
role of religion in the coming of the Civil War. His teaching
approach is
defined by his defintion of teaching: the presentation of
two or more
sides on any particular issue allowing students to make up
their own minds
with the goal of making available a balanced and useful history.
Additionally, courses have him continously developing material
to better
fulfill his course objectives of: 1) What is American civilization?
2)
What is a History Thinking Machine (or what is the practice
of history)?
and 3) What does history have to do with my [student's] life?
Recently,
his course presentations have been moved over to a powerpoint
format to
capitalize on this medium.
