History of the Southern Atlantic World, 1450-1900. Assistant Professor, beginning August, 2008. The Department of History at San Diego State University seeks a historian of the Atlantic World, whose work engages the southern portion of this world region – in particular South American and/or the Caribbean and their trans-Atlantic connections. Candidates are expected to have: a commitment to teaching an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse student population; comparative, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary research and teaching methods; and a willingness to teach surveys in modern world history and courses in the Department’s History for Teachers program, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization. Ph.D. by August, 2008, strongly recommended.
