Sandra Campbell
Sandra Campbell (University of California, Los Angeles,
2003) teaches courses on the history of Middle East and Islamic
Societies as well as world history. Her research interests
include the historical memory of early Islam, early Islamic
apocalypticism, heroic death and martyrdom in medieval and
modern Islamic societies,
and medieval brotherhoods that embraced strikingly altruistic
Islamic ethics (futuwwa groups). She is currently revising
her dissertation on the historical memory of Islamic history's
second civil war. She has published articles on Islamic apocalyptic
traditions and has presented several conference papers on
the historiography of early Islam.
