The Program in French and Francophone Studies at
San Diego State University offers a wide variety of 0pportunities to
study the language and cultures of the global French community. The program offers the B.A. and M.A. degrees as well as a minor in French. To enrich their campus-based learning experience, students majoring in French are strongly encouraged to participate study abroad programs such as the SDSU semester in Paris, in CSU-IP (California State University International Programs) and other approved study abroad programs in French-speaking countries. Beyond providing innovative and exciting programs, French and Francophone Studies offers contacts with international scholars and writers, through visiting faculty and guest lecturers. These faculty and speakers, drawn a wide-range of fields, have included Pascal Bruckner, Danièle Sallenave, Michel Zink, Maryse Condé, Hélène Cixous, Dan Franck, Béatrice Didier, Monique Wittig, Chantal Chawaf, Lucienne Frappier-Mazur, Nicole Brossard, and Olivier Ihl. In addition, Le Théâtre Français, first begun in 1983, is San Diego's only French-language theater group and performs each spring. Le
