Kinesiology is the study of human movement. It encompasses the processes through which individuals obtain optimal health, physical skill, and fitness. The professional, whether in a laboratory, school, medical or business setting, is ultimately concerned with improving the health and well-being of people. The academic foundation for the study of human movement is covered by courses that explore movement as it affects and is affected by physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, and mechanical parameters.
This web page enables SDSU applicants and continuing students to request admission to the Kinesiology major and pre-major. Students normally are admitted to the pre-major while they complete all lower division general education and preparation for the major courses. In the semester that all requirements will be completed, a pre-major student should normally request admission to one of the four kinesiology emphases. Entry to an emphasis is not guaranteed since each emphasis has a maximum number of students that can be accommodated.
