Student Opportunities

Learning occurs through many avenues at SDSU: classes, student organizations, on-the-job training, enrichment programs, etc. There are many University-wide opportunities available to students (athletics, band, debate, fraternity/sorority, etc.). Students are encouraged to consider all avenues to ensure a broad education during their time at SDSU.

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences offers many unique opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Personal learning occurs through personal growth and a sense of well-being that come when giving something back to your "community". All of the community service programs highlighted in this website are available for students to volunteer for professional experience. Some volunteer experiences can become paid experiences under the right circumstances.

In addition, there are student major organizations that one should join, for the networking with other professionals in your field is crucial to employment opportunities following college. In addition, the faculty have been creating endowments to support student scholarships which are presented in this section.

F.A.T.S.

Future Athletic Trainers' Society of San Diego State University is made up of undergraduate students majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training exercise and nutritional science majors who are specializing in athletic training. All F.A.T.S. members take their course work at SDSU, but they serve in five different training rooms throughout San Diego county under SDSU's newly accredited program. Please visit the FATS website for more information.

International Academic Exchange Programs (International Study)

This site contains information about international academic exchange programs offered by the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University. These programs allow a SDSU student to study at other institutions completing courses that will count toward SDSU graduation while paying fees to SDSU.

Content is arranged by institutional exchange program. After clicking on a highlighted institution name, a page will appear that contains links to the particular university and a table of equivalent courses between the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at SDSU and the exchange institution.

A prospective exchange student is responsible for locating all relevant information about semester/term dates, lodging costs, and personal needs that might arise in the relevant country. A good place to obtain answers about studying abroad is the SDSU International Student Center information page and they also have a website listing all the study abroad opportunities. Once at that web site, select the "Exchanges and Dual Degree Programs" option from the menu, and then click on the "Outbound" link.

The primary contact person within the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at SDSU is the School's Undergraduate Advisor.

Student Nutrition Organization (SNO)

The Student Nutrition Organization (SNO) will provide to its members, and to the community, information on the various fields of dietetics, food service management, food science, health and fitness. Our goal is to educate members as to existing opportunities in these fields of study as well as to provide guidance and contacts.
Please visit the SNO website for more information.

Future Physical Therapists Society (FPTS)

We are a student organization at SDSU that focuses on promoting academic success, informing and preparing our members about grad school, and seek to be involved with the community.
Please visit the FPTS website for more information.
