SDSU  DPD’s Mission Statement and Program Goals

Mission Statement
The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) of San Diego State University is to provide high quality academic training and career guidance to students in preparation for entry into the profession of dietetics.  To this end, the DPD will integrate the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) Foundation Knowledge and Skills (FKS) for the Didactic Component for Entry Level Dietitian Programs and the American Dietetic Association’s (ADA) Standards of Practice.   The DPD promotes the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS) Department’s philosophy and emphasis on training students for careers in fields related to improvement, maintenance or rehabilitation of physical health through sound exercise and/or nutritional practices.  The DPD will strive to recruit and graduate ethnically diverse students to serve the needs of the region’s population.

 

Broad program goals

1. The program will provide the framework necessary for students to acquire the Foundation Knowledge and Skills for Entry-Level Dietetic Education Programs as set forth by CADE
2.  The program will facilitate DPD student program completion, application to and acceptance into dietetic internships
3.  The program will support the Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences’ philosophy related to improvement or rehabilitation of physical health through exercise and/or nutritional practices.
4.  The program will retain ethnically diverse student body to provide dietetic professionals with the cultural understanding needed to meet the needs of the region’s population.
