EMC Mission
The Entrepreneurial Management Center at San Diego State University supports the development of innovative entrepreneurial education programs and research that facilitate venture creation and growth.
The Entrepreneurial Management Center was founded in 1986 with the objective of seeding the local business community with graduates well-grounded in entrepreneurial skills and methods. Financial and advisory support from several prominent business leaders and entrepreneurs launched the EMC, and it has operated with its own staff on the SDSU campus since 1994. The Center has helped the SDSU College of Business attain leadership stature by continually developing and enhancing coursework and complementary experiential outreach programs.
The EMC maintains a clear focus on the three essential areas of research, curriculum and outreach. SDSU's program in Entrepreneurship unites talented business faculty together with San Diego's vital and renowned business community. The EMC's continuing goal is to provide the educational programs and experiential opportunities that are necessary to nurture, instill, and foster successful entrepreneurship.
The privately funded EMC continues its stewardship through endowments, grants, sponsorships and donations. Funds are used to support staff, curriculum development, research, and programs including:
- Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology
- QUALCOMM Entrepreneur Internship Program
- Venture Challenge Business Plan Competition
- L. Robert Payne Entrepreneur Lectureship Series
- Closely Held & Family Business Forum
- Entrepreneur Society
- Emerging Growth Workshop
- Entrepreneurs-in-the-Classroom
- Entrepreneur-in-Residence
