Rita Tomlin is a freelance Medical Writer and owner
of Tomlin Consulting in San Diego, CA. She has 12 years
experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with 4 years
experience as manager of Medical Writing. She has generated
and contributed to a broad spectrum of documents, including
INDs, clinical development plans, protocols, Informed
Consents Forms, Case Report Forms, Clinical Study Reports,
manuscripts, posters, slide presentations, and 4 NDAs/CTDs
including managing the submission of Rituxin® for
treating rheumatoid arthritis. Ms. Tomlin specializes
in establishing team based processes for document creation
that ensure quality, compliant documents.
Ms. Tomlin teaches scientific writing at San Diego State
University (SDSU) and accredited workshops for the American
Medical Writers Association in their core curriculum
program.
Prior to becoming a Medical Writer, Ms Tomlin was a
Medical Technologist in hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio,
for 11 years. She performed clinical tests in chemistry,
hematology, microbiology, and blood banking and taught
courses in Medical Technology internship programs at
two hospitals. In addition, she coordinated Phase 1 clinical
trials at a Contract Research Organization for 2 years,
which lead to her career in Medical Writing.
Ms Tomlin holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree
in Medical Technology from the University of Nebraska
(1985); a Certificate in Advanced Technical and Scientific
Writing from SDSU (2004); and a Master’s of Arts
degree in Rhetoric and Writing Studies from SDSU (2007).
