College of Business Administration

The College of Business Administration at San Diego State University is ranked second among public undergraduate programs in California, is in the top 10 for International Business and the top 25 for entrepreneur programs*. With over 5,700 students and 40,000 alumni, it is one of the largest business schools in the U.S.  Each year, the college graduates over 1,500 students, the majority of whom immediately join the workforce in Southern California.

The College offers undergraduate and graduate programs in five main areas: Accountancy, Finance, Information & Decision Systems, Management, and Marketing. The College has a reputation for responding to the needs of the business community by implementing programs that reflect the local economy. Examples of these programs are the Corporate Governance Institute, begun in partnership with the Corporate Directors Forum; the Sports Business MBA in partnership with the San Diego Padres; and the Life Sciences Ph.D./MBA program with Invitrogen and Pfizer.

The dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Gail K. Naughton, was an entrepreneur prior to joining SDSU in 2002. She was the former president of a bioscience company, Advance Tissue Systems, and currently holds the patents on 90 life science products. Through her work in both for- and not-for-profit organizations, Dr. Naughton understands firsthand the need to deliver corporate governance training and has been an advocate of the university’s partnership with Model Governance, LLC since its conception.

Corporate Governance Institute

The Corporate Governance Institute at San Diego State University strives to become known as the dominant center for the study and application of corporate governance principles.

Founded in 1999, the Corporate Governance Institute (CGI) is an education and research center dedicated to the study and application of corporate governance principles. The mission of the CGI is to enhance the skills of organizational directors and senior executives through creating and delivering initiatives in a) Director and Executive development, b) research, and c) curriculum innovation. CGI programs focus on identifying "best practices" in all aspects of corporate governance, such as strategic decision-making and both social and financial performance of the firm. The CGI's mission is pursued in private, public, and not-for-profit corporations as well as in public agencies. Further, the CGI seeks to support the College of Business Administration, San Diego State University, and members of both the local and national community in matters related to corporate governance.
