Lectures and EventsFifteenth Annual Adams Lecture, Fall 2007Anthony Grafton Hartmann Schedel’s Chronicle—an immense and splendidly illustrated history of the world published in 1493—has always been admired but rarely read. Yet it is a fascinating book, an interdisciplinary creation. This lecture will show how travel writing, historiography, and many other genres came together in Schedel’s hands and in his book to form a compelling Renaissance vision of the world, the past, and the future. The John R. Adams Lecture in Humanities was inaugurated in 1993 through a grant and subsequent endowment by the late Professor Adams, former Chair of the Division of Humanities. A version of each lecture is subsequently published by the Department for selective distribution. Now available: Thomas Forrest Kelly, Harvard University, The Disastrous Premiere of The Rite of Spring. CLICK FOR COPIES.
