二．The three meanings of 看

1. 看=look

柯林往車裏一看。

我看看這個湯怎麽樣？

2. 看=think

我看這個飯館的菜很地道。

你們看我們吃點什麽？

3. 看=depend

去不去要看天氣怎麽樣。

中國菜健康不健康要看你會不會點菜。

三．The two meanings of 油:

這個菜的油太多了。(油=oil, noun)

這個菜太油。(油=oily, adjective)

四．並 (contrary to some assumption)

他說他很有錢，可是他並沒有錢。

貴的東西並不見得好。

五．How to translate “I don’t agree with you”?

Wrong: 我不同意跟你。(direct word for word translation)

Wrong: 我不跟你同意。(better word order but still based on English)

Wrong: 我不同意你。(closer now, but somewhat based on English)

Correct: 我不同意你的看法/説法。(adding the view/opinion is crucial)

六．Change of state了:

可以(點菜)了嗎？可以了。OK (to order) now? OK now.
