Lesson
Two: Dormitory
Zhang
TianmingĄ¯s dorm room is not too big and it accommodates two people. His
roommate is called John; he came the day before yesterday from Washington and
is already rather familiar with the school.
There
is some furniture in the room. Close to the window are placed two desks. In
front of each desk there is a chair. By the desks are beds and there are
blankets and quilts on the beds. In front of the beds are two wardrobes. Some
clothes hang inside the wardrobes. Two bookcases are placed by the door. They are still empty.
Zhang Tianming: John, it is so hot! IsnĄ¯t
there air conditioning in the room?
Yuehan: No, there isnĄ¯t. I heard that the
facilities in this building are rather old and the bathrooms are also rather
small.
Z: Then living here is very inconvenient, I
am afraid?
Y: No. I have been here two days and I feel
that it is very convenient. The cafeteria is right downstairs. By the cafeteria is a small shop, where they
sell daily necessities and stationary. The classroom is not far from here. It
takes about five or six minutes on foot.
Z: Is it convenient to do laundry?
Y: Very convenient. On our floor there are
three washers and three dryers.
Z: Is it noisy here?
Y: No, it is far from the big street from
here. It is very quiet.
Z: I heard that the food in school cafeteria
is generally not that good. How
about here?
Y: You guessed right. The food in the
cafeteria really is not that good. After I came, I just had it for one day and
I lost my appetite.
Z: Really? What do we do then?
Y: DonĄ¯t you worry. I heard that there are
quite a few restaurants around here. There is also a Chinese restaurant.
Z: I feel that the Chinese restaurants in
the US, there arenĄ¯t many that are good.
Y: That's not necessarily so. I heard from
old students that that Chinese restaurantĄ¯s food is very authentic.
Z: Really? Then in a few days you take me
there to check it out, OK?
Y: OK, no problem.
