Lesson 9

Dialogue I

(Shopping for clothes)

Salesperson: Miss, what are you looking for?

Miss Li: I'd like to buy a shirt.

Salesperson: What color do you like? Yellow or red?

Miss Li: I like red. I'd also like to get a pair of pants.

Salesperon: What size? Large, medium or small?

Miss Li: Medium. Something not too expensive, but not too cheap, either.

Salesperson: How about these pants and this shirt?

Miss Li: Great. Where do I pay?

Salesperson: Here.

Miss Li: How much altogether?

Salesperson: Twenty dollars and fifty cents for the shirt, and thirty-two ninety-nine for

the pants. Fifty-three dollars forty-nine cents altogether.

Miss Li: OK. Here is one hundred.

Salesperson: Forty-six fifty-one is your change. Thank you.

Dialogue II

Miss Li: Excuse me, this pair of shoes is too small. Can I exchange them?

Salesperson: No problem. How about this pair?

Miss Li: No, that won't do. This pair is the same size as the other pair.

Salesperson: What about this pair in black?

Miss Li: Although this pair is the right size, it's not a good color. Do you have any

in brown?

Salesperson: I'm sorry. We've only got black ones left.

Miss Li: All right then. Do I have to pay?

Salesperson: No, that won’t be necessary. This pair is the same price as the other one.
