Research Experience

Developed an instrument to test Religious Addiction and standardized it on three religious groups and a group of college students.

Conducted interviews with 5 "dual-career instant families," i.e., families in which the wives were previously married with children from the former marriage, husbands had never been married, and both were career-oriented, in order to develop hypotheses for a larger study.

Using an in-depth interview method, interviewed 16 "instant families" in order to develop hypotheses for statistical study.

Conducted research with 59 first married intact families through a questionnaire format to determine how irrational patterns are passed from parents to children.

Conducted research with 145 students to determine the residual effects of harsh parental punishment.

Conducted descriptive research of 5 dual career couples with small pre-school children where the wife travels out of town over night.

Conducted research on the human-pet bond with 101 families.  FACES II , the Pet Attachment Survey, and the Pet Behavior Checklist were used as instruments.

Replication of the Marriage Quiz using a sample of 145 college students in a required general education course.

Using a sample consisting of 91 college students and their families, conducted a study on differentiation from the family of origin and adjustment to college.

Interviewed 15 committed white dating college students, 13 committed interracial dating college students and 11 committed black dating college students to determine if patterns of interracial dating differ significantly from dating within one's race.

Research Interests

To conduct research on long-term marriages of over 50 years.

To conduct research on the relationship of grandparenting to children's

socialization.

To statistically test hypotheses on "instant families" which were developed in

Previous study.

To develop theoretical papers on family and marital relationships.

Continue research with remarried families to include the step-mother role, kinship

networks, and the socialization of new family members.

Construct theory and develop clinical application programs for remarried families.

Conduct research in the general area of family studies, particularly through the life

cycle.

Conduct research on the role of religion and ethical values on family

development.
