1.   Group Facilitator for Parenting Program for Domestic Violence Survivors

Group leader for Moms Helping Kids psycho-educational program for children exposed to domestic violence. Ran programs at ParentCare Family Recovery Center in La Mesa (2001), St. Matthews Episcopal Church in National City (2000), and Southbay Community Services in Chula Vista (1997). 2.   Psychological Assistant, San Diego-Imperial Counties Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled, Education/Psychology Unit - 1988 to 1990.

Worked within an interdisciplinary team (e.g., social workers, physicians, teachers) on the educational and psychological needs of developmentally disabled infants and young children (e.g., children with mild to profound mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida). Conducted developmental/ psychological evaluations for children six years and under, provided groups for support and parent training to parents of children with Down Syndrome, and consulted with staff occupational/ physical therapists and social workers on educational and parenting programs for families. Supervised by Dr. Lynne Gregory.

3.   Clinical Psychology Intern, Psychological Clinic, University of Illinois - 1983 to 1987. 1986 to 1987 - Treated marital couples and adult individuals; clients were viewed and worked with in the context of their family of origin. Interventive techniques included cognitive-behavioral, Gestalt, transactional analysis, and reality therapy concepts. Supervised by Julia Kling, MSW and Dr. Jim Hannum.

1984 to 1986 - Treated children and families; focus was on therapies integrating techniques from behavioral, cognitive-behavioral and family systems perspectives. Parent and communication skill training, child play therapy, and co-therapy techniques were used. Clients included children ranging from 3 to 16 years old, with behavioral, delinquent, school phobic, affective, and substance abuse problems. Supervised by Julia Kling, MSW, Janice Rothbaum, MFCC, and Dr. Jim Hannum.

  1983 to 1985 - Treated adults with affective, anxiety, adjustment and personality disorders, using cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal cognitive, and insight-oriented psychotherapy. Supervised by Drs. Frederick Kanfer, Greg Miller, and Daniel Klein.
4.   Research Assistant, University of Illinois - 1984 to 1987.

           Middletown Elementary School, Mahomet, Illinois - 1984 to 1987.
           Studied learned helplessness in elementary school children in achievement and social situations.
           Consulted with teachers on techniques which decrease helpless achievement motivation patterns,
           depression, and social problems. Supervised by Dr. Frank Fincham.

            Thomas Paine Elementary School, Urbana, Illinois - 1986 to 1987.
            Studied the social behaviors, self-perceptions, and sociometric status of school-aged children.
            Supervised by Dr. Steve Asher.

5.   University of California, Los Angeles - 1980 to 1982.

  Counselor and research assistant at the Fernald School for children with learning and behavioral problems: Aided
  children, aged 7 to 16, who were being mainstreamed from a specialized school to a public school, and studied
  children's perceptions of competence in achievement settings. Supervised by Drs. Bruce Compas, Howard
  Adelman, and Lisa Hoshmand.
            Research assistant at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute: Assessed cognitive-perceptual problems in autistic
            and  schizophrenic children. Supervised by Dr. Frederick Frankel.   Behavior modification therapist in UCLA Autism Project: Applied principles of operant learning to modify the
  tantrums, self-stimulation, and attention problems of a five year old autistic child. Supervised by Dr. O. Ivar
  Lovaas.     Research assistant for studies on aggression and peer relationships of children with attention deficit-hyperactivity
  disorder: Duties involved classroom observations and sociometric testing. Supervised by Drs. Barbara Henker and
  Carol Whalen.
