(still undergoing [de]composition)
MULCH is Craig Foltz, Gary Hustwit, Alexander Lee, Ame Parsley, Severino Reyes, Sandra Zane. A combining bin of mealworms, postcards, visual artists, writers, U.S. postage, computers and all the family members, lakes, dialogues and stories decomposing around us. Postcards because they're cheap, accessible, and when combined, make up one place that everyone has been to.
MULCHING THE SELF What is self? Identification is no longer limited by who your parents are, what place you came from or are going to. Perceptions of yourself and background information you choose to include enter into the ID mix. Yet, certain details are also unavoidable. Essential fragments that keep coming back until noticed. We absorb, repel, collect and discard influences around us, making the notion of a pure individual or autonomous voice obsolete. Rather, the self becomes a multitude of beings, politics, experiences and places.
APPROACHING THE MULCH With needed materials such as visual and textual participants jumping into the MULCH bin, we collaborated with the intention of allowing the rinds of our individualities to mold, soften and rot, becoming a collective compost. The loam that results is an equal combination of perceptions and reflections of one constructed self.
