Graphics
Most business writers recognize that graphics can contribute
to their documents in many ways. In addition to increasing clarity,
graphics can simplify complex or difficult information, emphasize
or reinforce information, add coherence, clarify relationships,
illustrate processes, add interest and enhance appearance of documents.
The web does have some types of graphics-related information,
including sites for obtaining photos,
clipart and font resources for free and for a fee, sites for
information on hardware and software,
and sites various other kinds of graphic
resources. Many of these sites will inspire your own creativity.
Photos, Clipart, and Font
Resources
- Yahoo's photography
page is a good place to start for finding photos. Included
in its listings are resources and companies along with exhibits
and galleries.
- One delightful site to visit for royalty free cloud photos
is the Cloud
Gallery.
- Alan Agle's site offers scenic, travel, and background photos
primarily for a fee, but he also presents a photo-of-the-month
which one can use for personal use.
- Several stock photo sites have established
excellent sites with large stocks available for free browsing.
Some of these are West
Stock's Muse site, PhotoDisc, Index
Stock Photography, Inc., and PictureQuest.
- The ClipArtConnection.com
is a webliography of clipart links. The site categorizes the
clipart as well as providing links to other sites and a clipart
of the day.
- The Mining Co.Guide
to web clip art offers a full service clipart page. It includes
well organized topic collections as well as numerous links, newsletters,
and even chat.
- ArtToday is a subscription
web site containing over 750,000 clipart, photos, and fonts for
Windows and Mac. For $29.95 a year, you can select from this
large database stored on its own server.
Hardware and Software
- Eastman Kodak Company's Web
page presents information on its products
and user groups as well as techniques for creating better photos.
- For a place where you can gather ideas,
MetaCreations includes
contest winners gallery and an image of the day created using
its products.
- For information on some of the more
widely used presentation products for business, you may wish
to visit company web sites for PowerPoint,
Freelance,
and Harvard
Graphics. Or you may wish to read a PCWorld
article on the top ten presentation and design tools.
