Welcome to Intermediate Weight Training. It is assumed that by signing up for this class, you wish to build a foundation of knowledge and experience in weight training or you just hope to improve you current methods of training. I am here to help you do that. Feel free to always ask questions or for advice. You will learn safe and effective techniques for weight training at any experience level. We will examine how to design an effective program to achieve your goals, proper nutrition, and current issues in resistance training.
Class Expectations
Class Attendance
Class attendance is mandatory. Perfect attendance will result in full credit
for the class. You will be afforded two unarranged absences during the semester
before you grade falls. Other absences must be cleared ahead of time with
the instructor. Each absence results in 5 missed class points. There are
no make-ups for missed classes unless there is a pre-arranged absence. Make-ups
are done on a 2-1 scale. For missed one hour in class, two hours are done
out of class.
Be on Time
Showing up on time allows for you to get an optimal workout in the 50 minutes
provided.
Proper Attire
No jeans, khakis, button-ups, or polos will be allowed. T-shirts must not
be ripped. Athletic shoes are required at all times. No open-toed shoes.
If you are not wearing proper attire, you will be unable to participate
resulting in a loss of half the daily class points (2.5).
Class Participation
Daily effort is required. Whether you are following you own workout, or
one prescribed for the class, you must be participating. The weight lifting
equipment is not furniture! Your participation will be reflected in your
accomplishent of your goals (see assignments).
Follow Safety Guidelines
The techniques and guidelines I demonstrate are for everyone's' safety.
It is expected that you follow these guidelines. Consistent disregard for
these guidelines will result in your dismissal from the class.
Assignments
The primary assignments in this class are attendance and participation.
An additional assignment is the "goals" assignment. Information
on this will be distributed the second week of class and will be due the
last week of class (due dates will be provided on information sheet).
Grading
At the beginning of the semester, you will start with 100 points. Every
day you are absent, you will subtracted 5 points. Failure to turn in the
"goals" project will result in a loss of 20 class points. There
will be two extra credit opportunities worth 5 points each. Information
on these will be distributed the second week of class. The grading scale
will be as follows:
| 90-100% | A |
| 80-90% | B |
| 70-80% | C |
| 60-70% | D |
