The
Challenges of Prosecuting Genocide and War Crimes

Judge Richard Goldstone has had a distinguished career as a judge,
a jurist, an international policy maker, and an academic. In South
Africa, Judge Goldstone played a notable role in the country's transition
to democracy. He was a Justice of the Constitutional Court of South
Africa from 1994 through 2003 and was appointed and served as the
Cheif Prosecutor of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunals
for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. From August 1999 until December
2000, he was the chairperson of the International Independent Inquiry
on Kosovo. Judge Goldstone is presently a member of the committee
appointed by Secretary-General Kofi Annan to investigate allegations
regarding the Iraq Oil for Food Program. This semester he is a visiting
Professor of Law at the University of San Diego.
