STAT 119
Elementary Business Statistics

Fall 2008

All knowledge is, in the final analysis, history.
All sciences are, in the abstract, mathematics.
All methods of acquiring knowledge are, essentially, through statistics.    C.R. Rao

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

In this elementary statistics course you will learn how to gather meaningful data, how to make sense of the data, and how to formulate and test theories.  The science of statistics is based on making inferences about people, animals, or things without having to gather data on every single individual.  (This is why you are likely to have not yet been included in a poll).  Proper design of the experiments or surveys to gather this data is crucial to developing meaningful statistics. In this course, you will become adept at recognizing poor designs that may lead to invalid results.  Additionally, you will be able to design a good study, analyze the data from such a study and make conclusions about your own theories.
