The Jewish Studies Program at San Diego State University is an interdisciplinary program serving the students of SDSU as well as the greater San Diego Community. We offer a Major in Modern Jewish Studies and a Minor in Jewish Studies and are dedicated to teaching a broad range of topics related to Jewish history, religion and culture from the biblical through the modern period.  Courses offered through our program are open to all SDSU students. In addition, our faculty are actively engaged in teaching to the broader San Diego community.

Tango Nuevo

Join us on October 20th for an evening filled with Tango music that explores the unique connection between Jewish composers and musicians from Poland and the way that they integrated tango music into their own repertoire.

Leading Israeli Artists Selected For U.S. Residencies Fall 2015-Spring 2016

SDSU Hosting Best-Selling Author, Assaf Gavron

Our Jewish Studies Program has been chosen among a select group of universities across the US to host one of nine leading Israeli artists who will be in residence for the 2015-16 academic year.

The artists will come as part of the Schusterman Visiting Israeli Artists Program, under the auspices of the Israel Institute, Washington, D.C. Celebrated in a variety of disciplines, including choreography, music, the visual arts and literature, the artists will spend a semester teaching and presenting their work to audiences in local communities through classes, exhibitions and performances.

Faculty Monty Winner

Congratulations to Dr. Risa Levitt Kohn for being the recipient of this year's Faculty Monty for the College of Arts and Letters. The Monty recognizes outstanding faculty contributions and are given to faculty members in each of SDSU's seven colleges.

All of the recipients will be honored at the All-University Convocation on August 20.

Yale Strom Receives Award

Congratulations to Artist-in-Residence Yale Strom! He was one of ten recipients of the Creative Catalyst grant for 2015.

Baron to teach at Richard Stockton College

Dr. Baron has been appointed the Ida E. King Distinguished Visiting Professor of Holocaust Studies by the Richard Stockton College in Galloway, New Jersey. In the fall semester of 2015, he will teach courses in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
