The Garrett Group is a small but growing financial services/insurance company that prides itself in professional, personalized service, expertise and assisting clients achieve their financial goals. We specialize in comprehensive net worth management for affluent families and small business owners, striving to manage all of our client’s financial needs from investments to car insurance to selling or buying businesses. Our core business activities are life insurance, retirement planning (IRAs, 401(K)s), investments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), and various financial analyst reports. We are looking for an individual who is interested in the financial services/insurance industry and is willing to start with an Executive/Administrative position to learn more and broaden their skills. Depending on your specific interests and skill level, we will train you with the goal of moving to positions with increased responsibility and independence. Duties will include
personally greet clients and help with misc. client tasks, help to implement new administrative systems and processes. We are currently located in Sorrento Mesa (5355 Mira Sorrento Place, 92121), but will be moving to a brand new office building in Cardiff on November 1, 2007 (1951 San Elijo Blvd, 92007). We customize our advice to each client, providing them with recommendations and implementation assistance to meet their specific goals and needs.We are seeking a full-time financial planning intern for the summer of 2008. The intern will assist senior planners in all parts of the financial planning process. Candidates should demonstrate professional demeanor and ability to work in a team environment; self confidence, personal integrity and an understanding of fiduciary responsibility; ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and work unsupervised; strong financial analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong personal computer, administrative, and organization skills. Prefer students working toward a degree in Accounting, Economics, Financial Planning or a related field. The internship is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in areas of financial planning, such as cash flow and retirement planning, investment management, income tax planning, estate planning, insurance and risk management, and education planning. This position could lead to possible full time employment. The intern will be responsible for a variety of financial planning tasks and will work through each step of the financial planning process. Specific duties include: preparing for client meetings and following up with clients as required; preparing financial reports and developing presentations for clients; assisting in implementation and management of client portfolios; organizing electronic case files; preparing letters and other correspondence; attending client, team, and investment committee meetings as required; and completing special projects as appropriate.
