Dr. Sobo has an extended record of professional service. She is presently the Book Reviews Editor for Medical Anthropology Quarterly and serves on the editorial boards of Anthropology & Medicine, Medical Anthropology, and Reviews in Anthropology.

A fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology, Dr. Sobo has served on the Medical Committee of the Royal Anthropological Association as well more recently on the board of the Society for Medical Anthropology. She chairs the Council on Child and Infant Health and Welfare (a SMA special interest group of SIG) and is past chair of two other SIGS (the AIDS and Anthropology Research Group or AARG, and the SIG for Clinically Applied Medical Anthropology or CAMA).
