Ron Seaver
President, Seaver Marketing Group; President and Founder, National Sports Forum
On Wednesday, April 5, 2006, students in San Diego State University's Sports Business Management MBA program participated in a webinar discussing the results of the 2006 Corporate Sponsorship Survey Report from Seaver Marketing Group.
The Corporate Sponsorship Survey is "an in-depth review of the opinions of team/event executives and leading corporate sponsors on sports marketing." In addition to Ron Seaver, President of Seaver Marketing Group, and Jim Kahler, Executive Director of Ohio University's Center for Sports Administration, representatives of two west coast professional football teams also participated in the webinar.
During the event, Mr. Seaver conducted an in-depth discussion of the survey highlights, including expected future sponsorship spending, what aspects of sponsorship packages are most important to teams and sponsors, and how corporate executives evaluate sponsorship proposals. In addition, Mr. Kahler shared a "Top Ten" list of suggestions and advice to teams when approaching potential sponsors. Overall, the webinar was a comprehensive look into the real world challenges and realities facing teams, events and corporate executives as they relate to sports sponsorships.
As a follow-up to the 2006 Corporate Sponsorship Survey Report webinar, on May 4, 2006, Mr. Seaver was gracious enough to visit the San Diego State campus and meet with Sports Business Management MBA students to answer any further questions about the Corporate Sponsorship Survey webinar. Additionally, Mr. Seaver discussed the National Sports Forum, which is owned and operated by Seaver Marketing Group and offered some general advice and insight about working in the sports business.
Mr. Seaver has over twenty years of experience in the field of marketing - most notably, the field of sports marketing - having worked on the team level (eight years as Director of Promotions for the San Diego Padres), followed by three years as Vice President of Fantastic Sports Promotions, a San Diego-based sports marketing, travel and merchandise company prior to starting his own company in 1994. In addition, Mr. Seaver has put promotional sponsorship programs together for such corporations as Gillette, MasterCard, Budweiser, JD Power & Associates, US Postal Service, Mellon Financial, Evian Waters of France, Ralston-Purina, Denny's Restaurants and Upper Deck Trading Cards.
The National Sports Forum (NSF) is the largest cross-team sports sales and marketing conference in North America. Each year the NSF brings together hundreds of senior-level sports sales and marketing executives from across the industry for three days of networking, idea sharing and analysis.
