On September 30 and October 3, students in the San Diego State University Sports Business Management MBA program had the pleasure of hearing two lectures from Joseph Nahra, Staff Counsel for the NFL Players Association.
Formerly an attorney with IMG Football, Mr. Nahra came to the Players association in 2001, where he served as the Director of Salary Cap & Agent Administration for two years before assuming the title of Staff Counsel. Mr. Nahra’s duties with the Players Association include drafting the license, sponsorship, event and endorsement contracts for the players’ union and PLAYERS INC, advising NFL players on labor issues, representing players in grievances, and participating in the agent certification process.
Mr. Nahra discussed the intricacies of the National Football League Collective Bargaining Agreement, and discussed the differences between this agreement and those of the NBA, NHL, and MLB. He also covered the history of unions in these leagues and discussed the effects of free agency on the player-owner relationship for these sports.
The students wish to thank Mr. Nahra for sharing his insight and experiences with the class and providing an expert analysis of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.
