SAN DIEGO (March 13, 2008) – The School of Accountancy at San Diego State University (SDSU) announced today that Vita Martin has been selected by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) to serve in their prestigious postgraduate technical assistant (PTA) program. Out of hundreds of nominations submitted, Martin is one of only five postgraduate students in the U.S. selected to begin the January 2009 term.
It is the FASB that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for non-government businesses and organizations throughout the U.S. and is recognized as the ultimate authority on financial reports by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
All candidates given the honor of serving in the PTA program must be nominated and approved by their respective universities and possess an outstanding academic record and strong communications skills.
“Vita’s exceptional academic performance along with her unparalleled dedication to excellence made her a perfect candidate for the FASB’s PTA program,” said Dr. Sharon Lightner, director of the School of Accountancy at SDSU. “Vita will continue the excellent representation SDSU has had with the FASB and GASB programs over the past years.”
Martin was also selected to receive the annual Federated Schools of Accountancy (FSA) award, which recognizes SDSU’s most outstanding Master of Science in Accountancy student. She has accepted an audit staff accountant position with KPMG International upon her graduation in May. Martin will take a leave from that position to join the FASB’s PTA program in January.
