Celebrate America’s Number One Small Research University During SDSU Month, March 2008

Mark your calendars for Explore SDSU on March 15, 2008

Join students, faculty, staff and alumni during the month of March to celebrate the contributions the university makes to the San Diego community. From teaching and research to community service, San Diego State University has emerged as a top research university and has been named the number one small research university in the nation for the second consecutive year.

Several of SDSU’s joint doctoral programs are currently ranked among the nation’s best including a No. 1 ranking for speech and hearing sciences and No. 2 rankings for math education and clinical psychology.

SDSU’s amazing faculty and students are finding ways to improve our world and change our lives. Celebrate SDSU’s new rankings during SDSU Month and see first-hand SDSU’s “minds that move the world.”

SDSU Month is filled with dozens of art, academic and athletic events and promotions.
The month-long celebration will kick off with the men’s basketball team hosting their final home game of the year on March 1 at Cox Arena at 7 p.m.

A signature event of the month is Explore SDSU-Open House on Saturday, March 15. Explore SDSU is a great opportunity to learn all about what SDSU has to offer. This year’s open house will feature information booths, free exhibits, tours, live entertainment and a Family Zone with fun activities for kids and families, including KPBS character readings from some of public television’s most popular characters.

Other events during the month include the Albert W. Johnson Lecture, which is an event to recognize SDSU faculty members for outstanding achievement in research and scholarship. A very unique and special event this March will uncover SDSU’s past at the unveiling of the recently discovered WPA-era murals painted by SDSU students in the 1930’s on March 7, at 6 p.m. at Hardy Tower.

Take advantage of the many special offers in honor of SDSU Month from local businesses and organizations, including several that benefit the SDSU Month Scholarship Challenge, which provides financial assistance to some of SDSU’s outstanding students.

More information on SDSU Month 2008, including events, sponsors, media partners, and special offers, will be available starting in January at www.sdsumonth.com.
