Mu Sigma Consulting Provides Restructuring Plan to Local Non-Profit Organization

Mu

Founded in April 2007, Mu Sigma Consulting was founded by five SDSU business students to provide management, marketing and financial consulting services to non-profit organizations throughout San Diego. The five students, Petar Kralev, Marissa Nieto, Miguel Palma, Tyana Perez and Joshua Simmons formed the group as an off-shoot from SDSU’s Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity chapter. Mu Sigma is advised by two Alpha Kappa Psi Alumni and SDSU IDS assistant professor, Robert Plice.

In September 2007, the group had arranged to provide Bayside Community Center in the Linda Vista area of San Diego with a long-term restructuring plan to help revitalize their Senior Program and turn the program into a financially sustainable and value-adding program.

After interviews with the Bayside staff and plenty of market research, the team presented the community center with a one-to-two year road map in December 2007. The road map detailed initiatives that would assist Bayside in evaluating and possibly reorganizing their Senior Program’s class offerings and outlined development of a marketing plan for the program.

Bayside Senior Program coordinator, Connie Curran was pleased with the outline. “The plan presented by Mu Sigma Consulting does, indeed, give us a useful map for continuing and improving our Senior Program,” said Curran. “The group of students we had the opportunity to work with are definitely future leaders.”

In light of this success, Mu Sigma’s founders are reviewing a plan to support a national expansion effort to roll-out similar student consulting groups throughout the United States. At this writing, three teams have been organized and five more are in the discussion stage.
