Top Student Offered Prestigious National Post

VitaVita Martin has been selected by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) to serve in their prestigious postgraduate technical assistant (PTA) program. Out of hundreds of nominations submitted, Martin is one of only five graduate students in the U.S. selected to begin the January 2009 term.

It is FASB that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for non-government businesses and organizations throughout the U.S. and is recognized as the ultimate authority on financial reporting by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

All candidates given the honor of serving in the PTA program must be nominated and approved by their respective universities and possess an outstanding academic record and strong communications skills.

During Martin’s one-year tenure at FASB, she will be assigned to work on major agenda projects or short-term practice and implementation issues. Assignments may include review and analysis of published research; preparation of information for FASB board members; drafting due process documents; or evaluation of accounting proposals for other organizations.

A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Martin earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in languages, English and German, from the National Technical University of Ukraine (also known as Kiev Polytechnic Institute).

Martin will graduate at the top of her class with a Master of Science in Accountancy degree in May and will take time off from her audit staff accountant position at KPMG International to join the FASB’s PTA program in January.
