Friends of Anthropology (FOA)The Friends of Anthropology (FOA) at SDSU seek to promote the appreciation, relevance, and understanding of the diversity of the human experience. As the science that seeks to understand the human experience, the field of Anthropology is increasingly important in our culturally diverse society and is more critical now than ever in community development, tolerance, and social understanding. Under the leadership of Betty Shutler, the FOA is a collaborative group built on the continuing legacies of SDSU's outstanding students, alumni, faculty, and community members. Elections will be held soon for next year’s committee, when President Elect Philip Greenfeld takes over the organization. Objectives include creating community interest in anthropology, linking students with practical experience and job opportunities, building partnerships within the community, and creating learning and training opportunities in applied anthropology. Fundraising will support these objectives for outreach and student opportunities through a Speaker Series, student scholarships, internships, faculty development, academic programs, community educational training, socials, and events. There are no membership dues, but members typically contribute annually towards the support of the Anthropology program, and some have established charitable trusts or endowments. For information about The FOA, call the Department at 619-594-5527 or e-mail anthro@mail.sdsu.edu or eshutler@san.rr.com, or greenfe@mail.sdsu.edu. News & Events
